Education as a driver of personal development

Pineapple Children’s Home Project is a local initiative on the shores of beautiful Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda. Since 2022, the organisation has been working with the local community to build a welcoming preschool. Under the motto ‘Power for Uganda’, they provide children with a safe place to learn while strengthening the wider region by creating local jobs during the school’s construction and expansion.

Why

Children in the rural area around Lake Bunyonyi often have limited access to quality preschool and primary education. Without a strong start, they miss out on valuable opportunities. The Pineapple Children’s Home Project aims to make education accessible to all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background, and create lasting positive change in this vulnerable community.

Impact

Mission & goals

Mission: Pineapple Children’s Home Project aims to create educational opportunities for preschool and primary school children in the Lake Bunyonyi region, helping them reach their full potential and build a strong future.

Goals:

  • Build a safe, enclosed swimming area in the lake.
  • Install steps and drainage to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
  • Complete the fencing around the grounds and expand the girls’ primary school.
Actions
  • Infrastructure: The local community has built classrooms, kitchens and toilets, and equipped the school with solar panels.
  • Employment: Financial support is used to employ local people to carry out the construction work themselves.
  • Local leadership: The project is led by Ananïas and his team. Educational and financial support is coordinated with Belgian organisations such as Educaid, as well as volunteers.

“Together with our partner in Uganda, we make education accessible to everyone, empowering the local community to drive its own development and growth.”

How your donation helps

With your donation, you directly invest in the school infrastructure and the future of the children at Lake Bunyonyi. Your support helps purchase building materials and ensures that local workers are paid fairly to build the new swimming area, drainage system and school fence. This not only gives the children a safe and inspiring learning environment, but also supports the local economy and the self-reliance of the wider community.
