Compassion in action for stray animals

Animal Rescue Albania (ARSA) is a non-profit organization that is wholeheartedly dedicated to the welfare of street animals in Albania. Through urgent medical care, adoption programs, and large-scale sterilization projects, they fight daily against the suffering of thousands of neglected and abused dogs and cats.

Why

In Albania, the stray animal population is extremely large, and there is often a lack of adequate government policies or medical basic facilities for these animals. Many street animals suffer from hunger, diseases, and abuse, or fall victim to brutal culling actions. Animal Rescue Albania exists to stop this systemic animal suffering and to create a culture of respect, empathy, and responsibility.

Impact

Mission & goals

The mission of ARSA is to protect and improve the quality of life for stray animals throughout Albania. Their main goals are:

  • Medical emergency aid: Rescuing and treating severely injured, sick, and abused animals from the streets.
  • Population control: Reducing the number of stray animals humanely through the CNVR method (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return).
  • Adoption and reintegration: Finding loving, permanent adoptive homes, both locally and internationally.
  • Education and awareness: Educating society, particularly young people, about animal rights and the importance of responsible pet ownership.
Actions
  • Rescue operations and care: They handle acute emergencies daily, fund complex medical surgeries, and care for animals in their temporary shelters and foster homes.
  • Sterilization and vaccination campaigns: ARSA organizes mobile clinics to mass sterilize and vaccinate stray dogs and cats against rabies and other deadly diseases.
  • International adoption facilitation: They carefully screen adopters and arrange all necessary documents, passports, and transport to give dogs and cats a safe new future abroad.
  • Campaigns against animal cruelty: The organization actively lobbies local governments for stricter legislation against animal abuse and advocates for humane solutions instead of violence on the streets.

“Every animal we save may not change the world, but for that one animal, the world is changed forever.”
