The Endulen Hospital is the central hospital in the remote area of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania. Here, the Maasai community and surrounding villages receive essential basic care – from childbirth to the treatment of infections and ailments – in an environment where help is often unreachable elsewhere.

Why

About 80,000 people live in this area, including many members of the Maasai tribe, who often have little access to medical care due to their nomadic lifestyle and the remote location.

The Endulen Hospital provides that access – it's the only local medical facility for a very large area. Without this hospital, people in need are often referred to hospitals far away, with all the risks that entails.

Moreover, the hospital is in a condition that urgently needs improvement – leaking roofs, mold in departments, crumbling walls – making safe, hygienic care no longer a given.

    • Strengthen the continuity of care – even in this remote region – by making the hospital architecturally and technically future-proof.
Actions
  • The hospital operates as a fully functioning district hospital in the Endulen region, Arusha, Tanzania.
  • Patients are treated daily for a variety of medical issues: infections, malnutrition, injuries (including those caused by wild animals), childbirth, and cesarean sections.
  • There is a neonatology department (for newborns), a delivery room, an operating room, a laboratory, and also mobile clinics that reach even more remote villages.
  • There are collaborations with international organizations and volunteers dedicated to medical training and infrastructure projects.
