Where every step protects nature

Thórsmörk Trail Volunteers is an initiative by Land and Forest Iceland dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of mountain trails in the spectacular highlands of Iceland. They work with international volunteers on trail construction, erosion control, and ecological restoration in remote areas such as Thórsmörk and Goðaland. Thanks to teamwork in the wilderness, they contribute to safe and sustainable hiking experiences.

Why

Since 2012, Trailteam Iceland has been supporting local rangers in the protection and maintenance of hiking trails in Thórsmörk and surrounding areas. Climate, tourism, and natural erosion put these paths to the test. Trailteam is made up of volunteers who do physical work to preserve these vital connections with nature.

Impact

Mission & goals
  • Maintenance and improvement of hiking trails in wilderness areas
  • Conservation through erosion control, trail construction, and weed removal
  • Awareness-raising about sustainable tourism and trail safety
