Water changes everything.

The Sustainability Development Trust is an organization in Namibia dedicated to sustainable solutions for poverty, food insecurity, and water scarcity. Founded by Annerie Maré, former Miss World Namibia, the trust focuses on education, sustainable agriculture, and access to clean water – with one clear belief: real impact occurs when communities learn to build their futures on their own.

Why

Namibia is one of the driest countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many communities face structural water scarcity, limited agricultural opportunities, and high youth unemployment. Traditional aid often provides only temporary relief, without lasting change.

The Sustainability Development Trust exists to break this pattern: by making people not dependent on aid, but by providing them with the knowledge, resources, and skills to produce their own food, manage water, and create local income.

Mission & goals

Mission: To strengthen Namibian communities through self-sufficiency in water, food, and entrepreneurship.

Goals:

  • Achieve sustainable access to clean water in villages and schools.
  • Increase food security through innovative agricultural methods like hydroponics.
  • Train youth and local farmers to become independent entrepreneurs.
  • Contribute to local economic growth in line with Namibia's national development objectives.
Actions
  • Installing water wells (boreholes) that give communities and schools access to reliable, clean drinking water.
  • Setting up hydroponic gardens to produce local, efficient, and water-friendly food.
  • Training and mentoring youth and farmers in sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and self-sufficient systems.
  • Collaborating with technical and agricultural partners to ensure knowledge transfer and quality.
  • Deploying strong local role models and education to achieve lasting behavior change.

“Real change happens when people are given the tools to build their own future.”
