Protection of our natural playground

Summit Foundation is an independent Swiss non-profit organization, established in 2001, dedicated to the preservation of vulnerable natural areas. With a focus on both mountains and waterways, the foundation works on tangible solutions to combat pollution and promote environmentally conscious behavior.

Why

Due to the increasing popularity of recreational activities in the outdoors, natural areas are facing more pressure from litter and ecological disruption. The Summit Foundation exists to reduce the negative ecological footprint of leisure and tourism, so we can continue to enjoy these places in the future.

Impact

Mission & goals

The mission of the Summit Foundation is to reduce the environmental impact of human activities in recreational areas. Their main goals are:

  • Waste Reduction: Organizing large-scale clean-up actions to remove waste from nature.
  • Behavior Change: Raising awareness among the public and businesses about the vulnerability of ecosystems.
  • Practical Solutions: Developing tools and infrastructure that make it easier for people to respect nature.
Actions
  • The Summit Foundation carries out various concrete programs to realize their vision:
  • Clean-up Tours: Annual national actions where thousands of volunteers are mobilized to keep ski areas and hiking trails free of waste.
  • Educational Campaigns: Installing informative signs and running awareness campaigns at ski slopes and tourist hotspots.
  • Pocket Ashtrays: Distributing portable ashtrays to prevent the spread of toxic cigarette butts in nature and water.
  • Collaboration with the Industry: Advising tourism organizations and events on how to minimize their ecological impact.

“Our passion for nature drives us to take action every day so that we can pass on the beauty of our mountains and waters to the next generation.”

— Frédéric Grichting, deputy director of the Summit Foundation
