Why

In countries like Uganda, over 90% of households rely on traditional biomass fuels for cooking. This leads to large-scale deforestation, poor indoor air quality, and significant economic burdens for families. Greentripper is here to make climate action accessible and provide concrete solutions to these environmental and health challenges.

The mission of Greentripper is to support certified climate projects that ensure the highest levels of environmental integrity. In Uganda, they specifically aim for:

  • Reducing CO2 emissions through the distribution of more efficient cooking stoves.
  • Protecting ecosystems and combating deforestation.
  • Improving the health and living conditions of women and children by enhancing indoor air quality.
  • Stimulating local economic growth and job creation.
Actions

Greentripper facilitates funding for a group of 11 projects in Uganda focused on the local production and distribution of improved biomass cookstoves (ICS). These stoves significantly increase cooking efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Additionally, they focus on:

  • Local distribution: Utilizing networks of micro-entrepreneurs and NGOs to make the stoves widely available.
  • Climate adaptation: Helping communities become more resilient to climate risks such as soil erosion and water scarcity.
  • Monitoring: Ensuring long-term benefits through ongoing monitoring of the use and impact of the stoves.
