For a sustainable future

The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation is dedicated to the purchase and protection of ancient forests in Finland. By securing valuable natural areas, we help endangered species, improve biodiversity, and preserve wilderness for the future.

Why

Finland loses large parts of its ancient forests every year due to deforestation and commercial logging. These forests are crucial for the preservation of unique ecosystems and rare animal species. The foundation was established to permanently protect these primeval forests and to give nature back to itself.

Impact

Mission & goals

The foundation aims to preserve and expand the remaining primeval forests in Finland. They want to:

  • Purchase and protect endangered forests according to Finnish nature legislation.
  • Raise awareness about the value of untouched nature.
  • Involve individuals and companies in nature conservation.
Actions

Through donations, the foundation purchases forests that are in their natural state and converts them into protected areas. Volunteers assist in identifying valuable natural areas, which can sometimes also be protected by the government. Thanks to swift action and targeted purchases, they are a crucial player in the protection of Finnish forests.

“Our activities are concrete and transparent: we search for, buy, and protect forests. Thanks to our donors, we see the protected areas grow year after year.”

Heli Jutila – Executive Director Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation
