The Butterfly Foundation aims to show that you can use 'travel' as a tool against the climate crisis and to leave an even more positive impact on people and the environment.

Just like a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a whirlwind on the other side of the globe, small – often invisible – positive changes can consistently lead to a huge positive impact in the long run. That’s the power of The Butterfly Effect.

In 2023, 1.3 billion people traveled to all corners of the world, and the demand for increasingly remote, deeper off-the-beaten-path travel is growing year by year. Travel is inherently linked to high CO₂ emissions and a significant impact on local ecosystems and social communities.

With the massive footprint of the travel industry in mind, there’s still a long way to go. Making the industry 100% accountable is a monumental task, but the journey towards positive change is more important than the destination.

As a group of travel enthusiasts, we want to show that we – despite all our imperfections – recognize where our negative impact lies and where our societal and social responsibilities are. And when we dare to take on those responsibilities, you quickly notice that their effect – on any scale – is consistently positive and progressive. Small actions build on each other.
